antique velvet cape 1800s Victorian dark brown capelet beaded soutache / fur trim
Stunning darkest brown plush velvet swing cape with black fur trim, and hand beaded soutache detailing circa 1800s.
The color is not a true, hard black, nor a true, rich brown, but the darkest possible brown.
Velvet looks and feels like a heavy rayon or silk - almost upholstery weight.
Rounded collar, two hidden hook and eye closures along the inner placket.
Collar edge and placket are trimmed in black fur- monkey fur was commonly used at the time; fur does show some age related wear.
Hits at about upper hips, based on height.
Quite full swing shape, with soft gathers along the upper back neckline.
Velvet material was backed with a woven canvas material prior to construction; all work appears hand done and has held up surprisingly well.
Ornate soutache swirl leaf design with beading along the front and sides, with a vertical version of the same design up the back.
No major damages or signs of wear- some light, age related issues but quite solid and wearable.
A really stellar piece!

approximately 60" chest circumference (allow for arms inside, please)
