Classic, original Gucci G1097 handbag, created in 1958 and favorited by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. 

Executed in deep brown pigskin leather, with the original clip closure. 

Short strap with three adjustments holes and gold tone buckle.

Fully lined in camel pigskin leather, with a large zippered pocket on each inner wall.

This is the original, larger version of the now iconic "Jackie- O" bag (style G1244), which was originally released in 1961 and included several small changes (most notably the smaller size, piston style latch, and one less interior pocket). This updated G1244 bag was produced through the 1970s and 1980s, with subtle changes. Rereleased by Tom Ford for Gucci in the 1990s, with a square piston, and at that time dubbed "The Jackie-O", whereas the G1097 (this model) has been dubbed the "Bouvier".
This original, coveted bag is an absolutely timeless icon- a must- have for Gucci aficionados in the know.

Markings:
The underside of the handle is embossed "Made in Italy by Gucci 4"; wherein the 4 refers to to the actual craftsman who made the bag from start to finish.

Condition:
Very light wear to the piping edges and corners.

Some light creasing to the body. 

Very slight fading to the gold tone hardware.

Very slight cracking to the underside of the strap at the smallest adjustment hole, and one on the outer edge of the top tip of the strap, hidden underneath the buckle- see photos- strap is totally solid.
The four inner corners that normally wear on this style of bag (often from being overfilled) at totally solid and secure, with original thread looping in tact.
Super clean inside and out.- some minor marks to the interior pockets, see photos.
This is from my personal archives and has been very well kept- I purchased it about a decade ago from it's original owner and have only used it a handful of times.

15- 5/8" across the bottom edge
9- 3/4" high (at center)
fairly narrow profile, though this does shift/ expand a bit with contents
strap is widest at the top and tapers to the connection points- 18- 1/2" curve length (approximately 7- 1/4" drop), with two additional points of adjustment
